Have you ever wondered what makes some high school programs exceptional? New York State Hall of Fame Soccer Coach, Bruce Stegner, has led his team Massapequa High School to seven state championships and over a dozen county championships, in this episode he shares with us the secrets to creating a cohesive program that thrives on positivity, leadership, players that show up for each other, winning championships and a ton of fun!
Bruce has not only dedicated 21 years to coaching a championship high school program, but has also played a pivotal role in nurturing individual players, inspiring them to reach their fullest potential both on and off the field! Among the many outstanding athletes he has had the privilege of coaching, he has nurtured the talents of more than 40 division-1 collegiate players, in addition to guiding individuals who have achieved remarkable success on both the international and professional stages. So what does Bruce say is the key to success as a player? Tune in to his insightful coaching philosophy, where he inspires players to craft a lasting legacy not just as skilled individuals, but as integral members of the team.
Bruce doesn't just share his coaching philosophy; he takes us on a thrilling journey back to the 1970s when he played soccer with Massapequa Soccer Club, one of Long Island's pioneering youth clubs. He caught the soccer bug at a young age, and that passion has driven him to compete for over 50 years at the youth, interscholastic collegiate, and senior levels. He is still buddies with some of his original teammates from those early club and high school days. His love for the game extended to sunrise pickup games before school and even nightly matches on the golf course these are some of his fondest childhood memories that encourage listeners to fall in love with their passion!
