There's nothing quite like the thrill of stepping onto the field to play the beautiful game, and injuries can definitely put a damper on your fun. Injury prevention is the key to ensuring young players stay happy, healthy, and continue chasing their soccer dreams.
In this episode, Dr. Christy Zwolski, PT, DPT, PhD, OCS and Dr. Kristin Bastain, PT, DPT shared some valuable insights for preventing injuries. They talked about the importance of warming up and cooling down, the benefits of strength training for young female athletes, and how factors like balance, nutrition, hydration, active recovery, and getting a good night's sleep can make a real difference in injury prevention.
In our own family's experience, we've had the privilege of working with Christy and Kristin at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Among their many roles in injury prevention and rehabilitation, they run a soccer clinic for individuals and teams that focuses on helping players build a solid foundation for injury prevention. They've been incredibly valuable to Matthew and Elizabeth teaching them how to advocate for themselves and helping them learn how to take care of their bodies and improve their injury prevention strategies. They even use advanced 3D camera technology to assist in this process! This was Elizabeth’s favorite of course!
